About

Now in its 5th annual year, Screen Stockport Film Festival has firmly established itself as one of the leading independent film festivals in the North West, screening over 200 short films and supporting over 2000 students.

The festival was founded by Joe Barratt, now 22, who wanted to create a film festival in his hometown which was accessible to independent filmmakers and connected young filmmakers up to leading professionals in the industry.

Since its creation in 2011, the festival has helped change people’s negative perceptions of Stockport as a town.

Both the film festival and our series of interviews with local directors, producers, writers and actors has shown that Stockport should be widely regarded as the North West’s capital of creative talent.

Over the last five years, Screen Stockport has managed to provide a valuable platform to filmmakers of all ages, backgrounds and experiences, whilst bringing the local community together through a celebration of independent film.
